A Co-working Day at Patch

As a Virtual Assistant, I work from home most of the time which is something I love for the flexibility and convenience it offers. But every so often, it’s great to shake things up and work from somewhere new.

This week, I hopped on a train from Darlington and headed to York to try out a recently opened coworking space that had caught my eye: Patch York. Here’s how I got on.

Patch is in a handy central location an easy walk from the train station. When I arrived, I received a warm welcome from the Patch team and was given a quick tour of the space. They’ve thought of everything from flexible desks and quiet corners to bookable meeting rooms and even a space kitted out for podcast recording. Whether I had needed to pop in for an hour between meetings or was planning a full day of deep work, there would have been an option to suit.

I spent the morning coworking with one of my lovely York-based clients, which made for a really productive start to the day. Later, I headed into The Lounge, which included one of their shared kitchen spaces, to prep my lunch. It’s a lovely, relaxed area, and I appreciated being able to bring my own food and take a proper break.

The afternoon was all about solo working. I bounced between client projects, admin for my own business, and tying up a few loose ends. The workspace itself is light and airy, with reliable Wi-Fi (essential, of course!), and the atmosphere is calm and professional. Everyone I encountered was friendly and considerate, which made for a really pleasant experience. My only quibble? The chair I chose wasn’t the comfiest for a full afternoon’s work, but to be fair this isn’t a deal-breaker, I can just pick a different spot next time!

What really won me over was the fact that Patch is dog-friendly! One of the other coworkers had brought in two beautifully behaved spaniels who napped quietly under the desk for the afternoon. As someone who firmly believes that dogs make everything better, this was the cherry on top.

All in all, Patch York made a great impression. If you’re local to the area, occasionally need a venue for a meeting or an event, or just fancy a change of scenery now and then, it’s well worth a visit. Whether you’re collaborating, creating, or just catching up on admin, it’s a space that helps you get things done, with a side of friendly faces (and possibly wagging tails).
